传道书 Ecclesiastes 9 << || >>
[niv] So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God's hands, but no man knows whether love or hate awaits him.
[asv] For all this I laid to my heart, even to explore all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it be love or hatred, man knoweth it not; all is before them.
[jnd] For all this I laid to my heart and to investigate all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; man knoweth neither love nor hatred: all is before them.
[kjv] For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
[nwb] For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred all before them.
[rsv] But all this I laid to heart, examining it all, how the righteous and the wise and their deeds are in the hand of God; whether it is love or hate man does not know. Everything before them is vanity,
[web] . For all this I laid to my heart, even to explore all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it is love or hatred, man doesn't know it; all is before them.
[ylt] But all this I have laid unto my heart, so as to clear up the whole of this, that the righteous and the wise, and their works, in the hand of God, neither love nor hatred doth man know, the whole before them.
[bbe] All this I took to heart, and my heart saw it all: that the upright and the wise and their works are in the hand of God; and men may not be certain if it will be love or hate; all is to no purpose before them.
[niv] All share a common destiny--the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good man, so with the sinner; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them.
[asv] All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth and to him that sacrificeth not; as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
[jnd] All things alike to all: one event to the righteous and to the wicked, to the good, and to the clean, and to the unclean, to him that sacrificeth and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
[kjv] All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
[nwb] All alike to all: one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as the good, so the sinner; he that sweareth, as that feareth an oath.
[rsv] since one fate comes to all, to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil, to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As is the good man, so is the sinner; and he who swears is as he who shuns an oath.
[web] All things come alike to all. There is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good, to the clean, to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn't sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who takes an oath, as he who fears an oath.
[ylt] The whole as to the whole; one event is to the righteous and to the wicked, to the good, and to the clean, and to the unclean, and to him who is sacrificing, and to him who is not sacrificing; as the good, so the sinner, he who is swearing as he who is fearing an oath.
[bbe] Because to all there is one event, to the upright man and to the evil, to the clean and to the unclean, to him who makes an offering and to him who makes no offering; as is the good so is the sinner; he who takes an oath is as he who has fear of it.
[niv] This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead.
[asv] This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
[jnd] This is an evil among all that is done under the sun, that one thing befalleth all: yea, also the heart of the children of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live; and after that, to the dead.
[kjv] This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
[nwb] This an evil among all that are done under the sun, that one event to all: yes, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness in their heart while they live, and after that to the dead.
[rsv] This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that one fate comes to all; also the hearts of men are full of evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
[web] This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all: yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
[ylt] This an evil among all that hath been done under the sun, that one event to all, and also the heart of the sons of man is full of evil, and madness in their heart during their life, and after it -- unto the dead.
[bbe] This is evil in all things which are done under the sun: that there is one fate for all, and the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; while they have life their hearts are foolish, and after that--to the dead.
[niv] Anyone who is among the living has hope --even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!
[asv] For to him that is joined with all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
[jnd] For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
[kjv] For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
[nwb] For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
[rsv] But he who is joined with all the living has hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
[web] For to him who is joined with all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
[ylt] But him who is joined unto all the living there is confidence, for to a living dog it better than to the dead lion.
[bbe] For him who is joined to all the living there is hope; a living dog is better than a dead lion.
[niv] For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten.
[asv] For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
[jnd] For the living know that they shall die; but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.
[kjv] For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
[nwb] For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
[rsv] For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward; but the memory of them is lost.
[web] For the living know that they will die, but the dead don't know anything, neither do they have any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
[ylt] For the living know that they die, and the dead know not anything, and there is no more to them a reward, for their remembrance hath been forgotten.
[bbe] The living are conscious that death will come to them, but the dead are not conscious of anything, and they no longer have a reward, because there is no memory of them.
[niv] Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun.
[asv] As well their love, as their hatred and their envy, is perished long ago; neither have they any more a portion for ever in anything that is done under the sun.
[jnd] Their love also, and their hatred, and their envy is already perished; neither have they any more for ever a portion in all that is done under the sun.
[kjv] Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
[nwb] Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, hath now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any that is done under the sun.
[rsv] Their love and their hate and their envy have already perished, and they have no more for ever any share in all that is done under the sun.
[web] Also their love, their hatred, and their envy has perished long ago; neither have they any more a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun.
[ylt] Their love also, their hatred also, their envy also, hath already perished, and they have no more a portion to the age in all that hath been done under the sun.
[bbe] Their love and their hate and their envy are now ended; and they have no longer a part for ever in anything which is done under the sun.
[niv] Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for it is now that God favors what you do.
[asv] Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God hath already accepted thy works.
[jnd] Go, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God hath already accepted thy works.
[kjv] Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
[nwb] Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.
[rsv] Go, eat your bread with enjoyment, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has already approved what you do.
[web] . Go your way -- eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has already accepted your works.
[ylt] Go, eat with joy thy bread, and drink with a glad heart thy wine, for already hath God been pleased with thy works.
[bbe] Come, take your bread with joy, and your wine with a glad heart. God has taken pleasure in your works.
[niv] Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil.
[asv] Let thy garments be always white; and let not thy head lack oil.
[jnd] Let thy garments be always white, and let not thy head lack oil.
[kjv] Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
[nwb] Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
[rsv] Let your garments be always white; let not oil be lacking on your head.
[web] Let your garments be always white, and don't let your head lack oil.
[ylt] At all times let thy garments be white, and let not perfume be lacking on thy head.
[bbe] Let your clothing be white at all times, and let not your head be without oil.
[niv] Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun-- all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun.
[asv] Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of thy life of vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all thy days of vanity: for that is thy portion in life, and in thy labor wherein thou laborest under the sun.
[jnd] Enjoy life with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity; for that is thy portion in life, and in thy labour wherein thou art labouring under the sun.
[kjv] Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
[nwb] Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that thy portion in life, and in thy labor which thou takest under the sun.
[rsv] Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life which he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.
[web] Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your life of vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity: for that is your portion in life, and in your labor in which you labor under the sun.
[ylt] See life with the wife whom thou hast loved, all the days of the life of thy vanity, that He hath given to thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity, for it thy portion in life, even of thy labour that thou art labouring at under the sun.
[bbe] Have joy with the woman of your love all the days of your foolish life which he gives you under the sun. Because that is your part in life and in your work which you do under the sun.
[niv] Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
[asv] Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, whither thou goest.
[jnd] Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, whither thou goest.
[kjv] Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
[nwb] Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do with thy might; for no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
[rsv] Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.
[web] Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going.
[ylt] All that thy hand findeth to do, with thy power do, for there is no work, and device, and knowledge, and wisdom in Sheol whither thou art going.
[bbe] Whatever comes to your hand to do with all your power, do it because there is no work, or thought, or knowledge, or wisdom in the place of the dead to which you are going.
[niv] I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.
[asv] I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
[jnd] I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to the intelligent, nor yet favour to men of knowledge; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
[kjv] I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
[nwb] I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
[rsv] Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to the men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.
[web] . I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.
[ylt] I have turned so as to see under the sun, that not to the swift the race, nor to the mighty the battle, nor even to the wise bread, nor even to the intelligent wealth, nor even to the skilful grace, for time and chance happen with them all.
[bbe] And again I saw under the sun that the reward goes not to him who is quick, or the fruits of war to the strong; and there is no bread for the wise, or wealth for men of learning, or respect for those who have knowledge; but time and chance come to all.
[niv] Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so men are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them.
[asv] For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
[jnd] For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are taken with the snare, like them are the children of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
[kjv] For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
[nwb] For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
[rsv] For man does not know his time. Like fish which are taken in an evil net, and like birds which are caught in a snare, so the sons of men are snared at an evil time, when it suddenly falls upon them.
[web] For man also doesn't know his time. As the fish that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly on them.
[ylt] For even man knoweth not his time; as fish that are taken hold of by an evil net, and as birds that are taken hold of by a snare, like these the sons of man snared at an evil time, when it falleth upon them suddenly.
[bbe] Even man has no knowledge of his time; like fishes taken in an evil net, or like birds taken by deceit, are the sons of men taken in an evil time when it comes suddenly on them.
[niv] I also saw under the sun this example of wisdom that greatly impressed me:
[asv] I have also seen wisdom under the sun on this wise, and it seemed great unto me:
[jnd] This also have I seen as wisdom under the sun, and it was great unto me.
[kjv] This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
[nwb] This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it to me great:
[rsv] I have also seen this example of wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me.
[web] . I have also seen wisdom under the sun in this way, and it seemed great to me.
[ylt] This also I have seen: wisdom under the sun, and it is great to me.
[bbe] This again I have seen under the sun as wisdom and it seemed great to me.
[niv] There was once a small city with only a few people in it. And a powerful king came against it, surrounded it and built huge siegeworks against it.
[asv] There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it.
[jnd] There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and encompassed it, and built great bulwarks against it:
[kjv] There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:
[nwb] a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:
[rsv] There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it and besieged it, building great siegeworks against it.
[web] There was a little city, and few men within it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it.
    [ylt] A little city, and few men in it, and a great king hath come unto it, and hath surrounded it, and hath built against it great bulwarks;
[bbe] There was a little town and the number of its men was small, and there came a great king against it and made an attack on it, building works of war round about it.
[niv] Now there lived in that city a man poor but wise, and he saved the city by his wisdom. But nobody remembered that poor man.
[asv] Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
[jnd] and there was found in it a poor wise man, who by his wisdom delivered the city; but no man remembered that poor man.
[kjv] Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
[nwb] Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
[rsv] But there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that poor man.
[web] Now a poor wise man was found in it, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
[ylt] and there hath been found in it a poor wise man, and he hath delivered the city by his wisdom, and men have not remembered that poor man!
[bbe] Now there was in the town a poor, wise man, and he, by his wisdom, kept the town safe. But no one had any memory of that same poor man.
[niv] So I said, "Wisdom is better than strength." But the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded.
[asv] Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
[jnd] Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength; but the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
[kjv] Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
[nwb] Then said I, wisdom better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom despised, and his words are not heard.
[rsv] But I say that wisdom is better than might, though the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heeded.
[web] Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.
[ylt] And I said, `Better wisdom than might, and the wisdom of the poor is despised, and his words are not heard.' --
[bbe] Then I said, Wisdom is better than strength, but the poor man's wisdom is not respected, and his words are not given a hearing.
[niv] The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools.
[asv] The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
[jnd] The words of the wise are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
[kjv] The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
[nwb] The words of wise heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
[rsv] The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.
[web] The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him who rules among fools.
[ylt] The words of the wise in quiet are heard, More than the cry of a ruler over fools.
[bbe] The words of the wise which come quietly to the ear are noted more than the cry of a ruler among the foolish.
[niv] Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.
[asv] Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroyeth much good.
[jnd] Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroyeth much good.
[kjv] Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
[nwb] Wisdom better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.
[rsv] Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.
[web] Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.
[ylt] Better wisdom than weapons of conflict, And one sinner destroyeth much good!
[bbe] Wisdom is better than instruments of war, but one sinner is the destruction of much good.
