[niv] I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.

[rsv] I know that whatever God does endures for ever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; God has made it so, in order that men should fear before him.
[web] I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; and God has done it, that men should fear before him.
[ylt] I have known that all that God doth is to the age, to it nothing is to be added, and from it nothing is to be withdrawn; and God hath wrought that they do fear before Him.
[bbe] I am certain that whatever God does will be for ever. No addition may be made to it, nothing may be taken from it; and God has done it so that man may be in fear before him.
[niv] Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account.
[asv] That which is hath been long ago; and that which is to be hath long ago been: and God seeketh again that which is passed away.
[jnd] That which is was long ago, and that which is to be hath already been; and God bringeth back again that which is past.
[kjv] That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
[nwb] That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
[rsv] That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.
[web] That which is has been long ago, and that which is to be has been long ago: and God seeks again that which is passed away.
[ylt] What is that which hath been? already it is, and that which to be hath already been, and God requireth that which is pursued.
[bbe] Whatever is has been before, and what is to be is now; because God makes search for the things which are past.
[niv] And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment--wickedness was there, in the place of justice--wickedness was there.
[asv] And moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of justice, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.
[jnd] And moreover I saw under the sun, that in the place of judgment, wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, wickedness was there.
[kjv] And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
[nwb] And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, wickedness there; and the place of righteousness, iniquity there.
[rsv] Moreover I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, even there was wickedness, and in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness.
[web] . Moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of justice, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.
[ylt] And again, I have seen under the sun the place of judgment -- there the wicked; and the place of righteousness -- there the wicked.
[bbe] And again, I saw under the sun, in the place of the judges, that evil was there; and in the place of righteousness, that evil was there.
[niv] I thought in my heart, "God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed."
[asv] I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
[jnd] I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
[kjv] I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
[nwb] I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked: for a time there for every purpose and for every work.
[rsv] I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for he has appointed a time for every matter, and for every work.
[web] I said in my heart, "God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work."
[ylt] I said in my heart, `The righteous and the wicked doth God judge, for a time to every matter and for every work there.'
[bbe] I said in my heart, God will be judge of the good and of the bad; because a time for every purpose and for every work has been fixed by him.
[niv] I also thought, "As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals.
[asv] I said in my heart, It is because of the sons of men, that God may prove them, and that they may see that they themselves are but as beasts.
[jnd] I said in my heart, It is thus with the children of men, that God may prove them, and that they should see that they themselves are but beasts.
[kjv] I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
[nwb] I said in my heart concerning the state of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
[rsv] I said in my heart with regard to the sons of men that God is testing them to show them that they are but beasts.
[web] I said in my heart, "As for the sons of men, God tests them, so that they may see that they themselves are like animals.
[ylt] I said in my heart concerning the matter of the sons of man that God might cleanse them, so as to see that they themselves beasts.
[bbe] I said in my heart, It is because of the sons of men, so that God may put them to the test and that they may see themselves as beasts.
[niv] Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath ; man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless.
[asv] For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; and man hath no preeminence above the beasts: for all is vanity.
[jnd] For what befalleth the children of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other, and they have all one breath; and man hath no pre-eminence above the beast: for all is vanity.
[kjv] For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
[nwb] For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yes, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no pre-eminence above a beast: for all vanity.
[rsv] For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts; for all is vanity.
[web] For that which happens to the sons of men happens to animals. Even one thing happens to them. As the one dies, so the other dies. Yes, they have all one breath; and man has no advantage over the animals: for all is vanity.
[ylt] For an event the sons of man, and an event the beasts, even one event to them; as the death of this, so the death of that; and one spirit to all, and the advantage of man above the beast is nothing, for the whole vanity.
[bbe] Because the fate of the sons of men and the fate of the beasts is the same. As is the death of one so is the death of the other, and all have one spirit. Man is not higher than the beasts; because all is to no purpose.
[niv] All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return.
[asv] All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
[jnd] All go unto one place: all are of the dust, and all return to dust.
[kjv] All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
[nwb] All go to one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
[rsv] All go to one place; all are from the dust, and all turn to dust again.
[web] All go to one place. All are from the dust, and all turn to dust again.
[ylt] The whole are going unto one place, the whole have been from the dust, and the whole are turning back unto the dust.
[bbe] All go to one place, all are of the dust, and all will be turned to dust again.
[niv] Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?"
[asv] Who knoweth the spirit of man, whether it goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast, whether it goeth downward to the earth?
[jnd] Who knoweth the spirit of the children of men? Doth it go upwards? and the spirit of the beasts, doth it go downwards to the earth?
[kjv] Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
[nwb] Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
[rsv] Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down to the earth?
[web] Who knows the spirit of man, whether it goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, whether it goes downward to the earth?"
[ylt] Who knoweth the spirit of the sons of man that is going up on high, and the spirit of the beast that is going down below to the earth?
[bbe] Who is certain that the spirit of the sons of men goes up to heaven, or that the spirit of the beasts goes down to the earth?
[niv] So I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?
[asv] Wherefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him back to see what shall be after him?
[jnd] And I have seen that there is nothing better than that man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion; for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
[kjv] Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
[nwb] Wherefore I perceive that nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
[rsv] So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should enjoy his work, for that is his lot; who can bring him to see what will be after him?
[web] . Therefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who can bring him to see what will be after him?
[ylt] And I have seen that there is nothing better than that man rejoice in his works, for it his portion; for who doth bring him in to look on that which is after him?
[bbe] So I saw that there is nothing better than for a man to have joy in his work--because that is his reward. Who will make him see what will come after him?
