    [niv] Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers,
    [asv] Now we beseech you, brethren, touching the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together unto him;
    [jnd] Now we beg you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him,
    [kjv] Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
    [nwb] Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering to him.
    [rsv] Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling to meet him, we beg you, brethren,
    [web] . Now we beg you, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to him,
    [ylt] And we ask you, brethren, in regard to the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, and of our gathering together unto him,
    [bbe] Now as to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and our meeting with him, it is our desire, my brothers,
    [niv] not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come.
    [asv] to the end that ye be not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is just at hand;
    [jnd] that ye be not soon shaken in mind, nor troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as by us, as that the day of the Lord is present.
    [kjv] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
    [nwb] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
    [rsv] not to be quickly shaken in mind or excited, either by spirit or by word, or by letter purporting to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
    [web] to the end that you won't be quickly shaken in your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by letter as from us, saying that the day of Christ had come.
    [ylt] that ye be not quickly shaken in mind, nor be troubled, neither through spirit, neither through word, neither through letters as through us, as that the day of Christ hath arrived;
    [bbe] That you may not be moved in mind or troubled by a spirit, or by a word, or by a letter as from us, with the suggestion that the day of the Lord is even now come;
    [niv] Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
    [asv] let no man beguile you in any wise: for it will not be, except the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,
    [jnd] Let not any one deceive you in any manner, because unless the apostasy have first come, and the man of sin have been revealed, the son of perdition;
    [kjv] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
    [nwb] Let no man deceive you by any means: for , except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
    [rsv] Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition,
    [web] Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be, unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction,
    [ylt] let not any one deceive you in any manner, because -- if the falling away may not come first, and the man of sin be revealed -- the son of the destruction,
    [bbe] Give no belief to false words: because there will first be a falling away from the faith, and the revelation of the man of sin, the son of destruction,
    [niv] He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
    [asv] he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God.
    [jnd] who opposes and exalts himself on high against all called God, or object of veneration; so that he himself sits down in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
    [kjv] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
    [nwb] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
    [rsv] who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
    [web] he who opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God.
    [ylt] who is opposing and is raising himself up above all called God or worshipped, so that he in the sanctuary of God as God hath sat down, shewing himself off that he is God -- .
    [bbe] Who puts himself against all authority, lifting himself up over all which is named God or is given worship; so that he takes his seat in the Temple of God, putting himself forward as God.
    [niv] Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?
    [asv] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
    [jnd] Do ye not remember that, being yet with you, I said these things to you?
    [kjv] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
    [nwb] Remember ye not, that when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
    [rsv] Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you this?
    [web] Don't you remember that, when I was still with you, I told you these things?
    [ylt] Do ye not remember that, being yet with you, these things I said to you?
    [bbe] Have you no memory of what I said when I was with you, giving you word of these things?
    [niv] And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
    [asv] And now ye know that which restraineth, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season.
    [jnd] And now ye know that which restrains, that he should be revealed in his own time.
    [kjv] And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
    [nwb] And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
    [rsv] And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time.
    [web] Now you know what is restraining him, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season.
    [ylt] and now, what is keeping down ye have known, for his being revealed in his own time,
    [bbe] And now it is clear to you what is keeping back his revelation till the time comes for him to be seen.
    [niv] For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.
    [asv] For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only there is one that restraineth now, until he be taken out of the way.
    [jnd] For the mystery of lawlessness already works; only he who restrains now until he be gone,
    [kjv] For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
    [nwb] For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now restraineth restrain, until he be taken out of the way.
    [rsv] For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.
    [web] For the mystery of lawlessness does already work. Only there is one who restrains now, until he is taken out of the way.
    [ylt] for the secret of the lawlessness doth already work, only he who is keeping down now -- till he may be out of the way,
    [bbe] For the secret of evil is even now at work: but there is one who is keeping back the evil till he is taken out of the way.
    [niv] And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.
    [asv] And then shall be revealed the lawless one, whom the Lord Jesus shall slay with the breath of his mouth, and bring to nought by the manifestation of his coming;
    [jnd] and then the lawless one shall be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus shall consume with the breath of his mouth, and shall annul by the appearing of his coming;
    [kjv] And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
    [nwb] And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the spirit of his mouth, and will destroy with the brightness of his coming:
    [rsv] And then the lawless one will be revealed, and the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by his appearing and his coming.
    [web] Then will the lawless one be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the breath of his mouth, and bring to nothing by the brightness of his coming;
    [ylt] and then shall be revealed the Lawless One, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the manifestation of his presence,
    [bbe] And then will come the revelation of that evil one, whom the Lord Jesus will put to death with the breath of his mouth, and give to destruction by the revelation of his coming;
    [niv] The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders,
    [asv] even he, whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
    [jnd] whose coming is according to the working of Satan in all power and signs and wonders of falsehood,
    [kjv] Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
    [nwb] , whose coming is after the working of Satan, with all power, and signs, and lying wonders,
    [rsv] The coming of the lawless one by the activity of Satan will be with all power and with pretended signs and wonders,
    [web] even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
    [ylt] whose presence is according to the working of the Adversary, in all power, and signs, and lying wonders,
    [bbe] Even the one whose coming is marked by the working of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,
    [niv] and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
    [asv] and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
    [jnd] and in all deceit of unrighteousness to them that perish, because they have not received the love of the truth that they might be saved.
    [kjv] And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
    [nwb] And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
    [rsv] and with all wicked deception for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
    [web] and with all deception of wickedness for those who are being lost, because they didn't receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
    [ylt] and in all deceitfulness of the unrighteousness in those perishing, because the love of the truth they did not receive for their being saved,
    [bbe] And with every deceit of wrongdoing among those whose fate is destruction; because they were quite without that love of the true faith by which they might have salvation.
    [niv] For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie
    [asv] And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie:
    [jnd] And for this reason God sends to them a working of error, that they should believe what is false,
    [kjv] And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
    [nwb] And for this cause God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
    [rsv] Therefore God sends upon them a strong delusion, to make them believe what is false,
    [web] Because of this, God sends them a working of error, that they should believe a lie;
    [ylt] and because of this shall God send to them a working of delusion, for their believing the lie,
    [bbe] And for this cause, God will give them up to the power of deceit and they will put their faith in what is false:
    [niv] and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
    [asv] that they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
    [jnd] that all might be judged who have not believed the truth, but have found pleasure in unrighteousness.
    [kjv] That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
    [nwb] That they all may be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
    [rsv] so that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
    [web] that they all might be judged who didn't believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
    [ylt] that they may be judged -- all who did not believe the truth, but were well pleased in the unrighteousness.
    [bbe] So that they all may be judged, who had no faith in what is true, but took pleasure in evil.
    [niv] But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
    [asv] But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
    [jnd] But we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of Lord, that God has chosen you from beginning to salvation in sanctification of Spirit and belief of truth:
    [kjv] But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
    [nwb] But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren, beloved by the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation, through sanctification of the Spirit, and belief of the truth:
    [rsv] But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
    [web] But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth;
    [ylt] And we -- we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved by the Lord, that God did choose you from the beginning to salvation, in sanctification of the Spirit, and belief of the truth,
    [bbe] But it is right for us to give praise to God at all times for you, brothers, loved by the Lord, because it was the purpose of God from the first that you might have salvation, being made holy by the Spirit and by faith in what is true:
    [niv] He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    [asv] whereunto he called you through our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    [jnd] whereto he has called you by our glad tidings, to obtaining of glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    [kjv] Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    [nwb] To which he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    [rsv] To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    [web] whereunto he called you through our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    [ylt] to which He did call you through our good news, to the acquiring of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ;
    [bbe] And in this purpose he gave you a part through the good news of which we were the preachers, even that you might have part in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    [niv] So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.
    [asv] So then, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye were taught, whether by word, or by epistle of ours.
    [jnd] So then, brethren, stand firm, and hold fast the instructions which ye have been taught, whether by word or by our letter.
    [kjv] Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
    [nwb] Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
    [rsv] So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter.
    [web] So then, brothers, stand firm, and hold the traditions which you were taught by us, whether by word, or by letter.
    [ylt] so, then, brethren, stand ye fast, and hold the deliverances that ye were taught, whether through word, whether through our letter;
    [bbe] So then, brothers, be strong in purpose, and keep the teaching which has been given to you by word or by letter from us.
    [niv] May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope,
    [asv] Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,
    [jnd] But our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us, and given eternal consolation and good hope by grace,
    [kjv] Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
    [nwb] Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, who hath loved us, and hath given everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
    [rsv] Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,
    [web] Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,
    [ylt] and may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who did love us, and did give comfort age-during, and good hope in grace,
    [bbe] Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who had love for us and has given us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,
    [niv] encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
    [asv] comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

    [web] comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work and word.
    [ylt] comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word and work.
    [bbe] Give you comfort and strength in every good work and word.
