    [niv] He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,
    [asv] And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

    [niv] for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth.
    [asv] For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
    [jnd] For he shall be great before Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.

    [niv] And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
    [asv] And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to walk in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him.
    [jnd] And *he* shall go before him in spirit and power of Elias, to turn hearts of fathers to children, and disobedient ones to thoughts of just , to make ready for Lord a prepared people.

    [niv] Zechariah asked the angel, "How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years."
    [asv] And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
    [jnd] And Zacharias said to the angel, How shall I know this, for *I* am an old man, and my wife advanced in years?

    [niv] The angel answered, "I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

    [ylt] And the messenger answering said to him, `I am Gabriel, who have been standing near before God, and I was sent to speak unto thee, and to proclaim these good news to thee,
    [bbe] And the angel, answering, said, I am Gabriel, whose place is before God; I have been sent to say these words to you and to give you this good news.
1:20 [cbgb] 到了时候,这话必然应验。只因你不信,你必哑吧不能说话,直到这事成就的日子。 < | >
    [niv] And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their proper time."
    [asv] And behold, thou shalt be silent and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall come to pass, because thou believedst not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
    [jnd] and behold, thou shalt be silent and not able to speak, till the day in which these things shall take place, because thou hast not believed my words, the which shall be fulfilled in their time.
    [kjv] And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
    [nwb] And behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words which shall be fulfilled in their season.

    [niv] Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple.

    [niv] When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.
    [asv] And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: and he continued making signs unto them, and remained dumb.
    [jnd] But when he came out he could not speak to them, and they recognised that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he was making signs to them, and continued dumb.

    [niv] When his time of service was completed, he returned home.
    [asv] And it came to pass, when the days of his ministration were fulfilled, he departed unto his house.
