    [niv] Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, "I find no pleasure in them"--
    [asv] Remember also thy Creator in the days of thy youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

12:3 [cbgb] 看守房屋的发颤,有力的屈身,推磨的稀少就止息,从窗户往外看的都昏暗, < | >
    [niv] when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim;
    [asv] in the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows shall be darkened,

12:4 [cbgb] 街门关闭,推磨的响声微小,雀鸟一叫,人就起来,唱歌的女子,也都衰微, < | >
    [niv] when the doors to the street are closed and the sound of grinding fades; when men rise up at the sound of birds, but all their songs grow faint;
    [asv] and the doors shall be shut in the street; when the sound of the grinding is low, and one shall rise up at the voice of a bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;
    [jnd] and the doors are shut toward the street; when the sound of the grinding is subdued, and they rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of song are brought low;

12:5 [cbgb] 人怕高处,路上有惊慌,杏树开花,蚱蜢成为重担,人所愿的也都废掉,因为人归他永远的家,吊丧的在街上往来, < | >
    [niv] when men are afraid of heights and of dangers in the streets; when the almond tree blossoms and the grasshopper drags himself along and desire no longer is stirred. Then man goes to his eternal home and mourners go about the streets.
    [asv] yea, they shall be afraid of that which is high, and terrors shall be in the way; and the almond-tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail; because man goeth to his everlasting home, and the mourners go about the streets:
    [jnd] they are also afraid of what is high, and terrors are in the way, and the almond is despised, and the grasshopper is a burden, and the caper-berry is without effect; (for man goeth to his age-long home, and the mourners go about the streets;)

    [niv] Remember him--before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, or the wheel broken at the well,
    [asv] before the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern,
    [jnd] -- before the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be shattered at the fountain, or the wheel be broken at the cistern;

    [niv] and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
    [asv] and the dust returneth to the earth as it was, and the spirit returneth unto God who gave it.

    [asv] Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; all is vanity.

    [niv] Not only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.
    [asv] And further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

    [niv] The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails--given by one Shepherd.
    [asv] The words of the wise are as goads; and as nails well fastened are the words of the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

    [niv] Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.
    [asv] And furthermore, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
